Description
I saw this pretty little Black Phoebe down by the waters in Lake Havasu, Arizona. They are fascinating to watch as they dart about after little bugs.
The Black Phoebe is in the flycatcher family and breeds from southwest Oregon and California south through Central and South America.
It is a small bird measuring 6-7".
It feeds on a wide variety of insects including beetles, grasshoppers, crickets, wild bees, wasps, flies, moths, caterpillars. Occasionally eats small fish.

We have them in southern Arizona, too. They are wonderful to watch. We have some nice rocks in the stream they like to sit on.
