Description
The flightless ostrich is the world's largest bird and is built for running. They roam African savanna and desert lands and get most of their water from the plants they eat.
The ostrich was once known as the “camel bird” because of its long neck, prominent eyes, and sweeping eyelashes, as well as its jolting walk. Also, like camels, the ostrich can tolerate high temperatures and go without water for long periods of time.
I saw this Ostrich at the Reid Park Zoo, Tucson, AZ.
